Salisbury and its surrounding area is one of the most historically rich areas of Britain. The city itself is an ideal base for visiting many of the South's leading attractions. Below you will find brief snapshots of some of the cultural sites you can visit. For more information travel the world wide web and then turn your dreams into reality by visiting us here at The Old Rectory.

A bird's eye view of Stonehenge
Britain's most outstanding monument.

As the ceremonial centre of one of the world's earliest cultures, Stonehenge stands as a monument to the spirit of human achievement. To visit it is to stand in the presence of 5000 years of mystery, and feel shivers down your spine!

The beautiful Heale & Stourhead Gardens

8 acres of resplendent gardens in a formal setting of clipped hedges and finely crafted stonework. Unusual plants from the garden can be bought in the specialist Plant Centre.

Old Sarum Castle

This massive Iron Age hill fort was used by the Romans, Saxons and Normans before becoming one of the most flourishing settlements in medieval England. Hear echoes of England's glorious past among its ruined walls and burial mounds.

The lofty tower of Salisbury Cathedral

Recent restoration work has returned this superb example of medieval architecture to its former glory. Stand on hallowed ground and admire the tallest church spire in England. Housed in the Cathedral is one of the four surviving copies of the Magna Carta. Amazing!

Wilton House
From 9th century nunnery to home of the 17th Earl.

Like a stately home out of a Jane Austen novel, Wilton House has 21 acres of landscaped parkland, water and rose gardens, a world famous art collection... and 200 teddy bears with their own house and stables. Yes!

Wilton Shopping Village
Antique stores and factory outlets.
Need we say more?

Wilton was the ancient capital of Wessex. Now, it's a fascinating capital of shopping with a wide range of factory outlet shops featuring leading brands. It's certainly a unique shopping experience offering good value in an historic, riverside setting.

Salisbury Playhouse
That's entertainment!

There's a lively theatre complex and a cinema just a short stroll from The Old Rectory. In fact, the heart of Salisbury's downtown core is just a few minutes walk from your room. Civilization awaits you!
